Finding a co-founder?

How have people found their co-founders? Lots of deep tech founders come from technical backgrounds and are often encouraged to find business co-founders. But it can be hard to find someone who is a good fit (a complementary personality, an understanding of the industry, the right network, etc.).

I'm guessing most people met through existing networks, but I'm curious to hear if that's a valid assumption.
