The CDC's SBIR program funds small businesses developing innovative technologies in diagnostics, surveillance, data science (including AI/ML), occupational safety, and public health aligned with CDC's disease prevention mission. Phase I awards up to $314,363 support feasibility studies over 6-12 months, while Phase II awards up to approximately $2.1M fund continued development and commercialization over two years. Only U.S.-based small business concerns with 500 or fewer employees are eligible, and a principal investigator must be identified to oversee the R&D work. Proposed projects must align with CDC's public health priorities including vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, and health information technology.
