Chevron Studio is a venture studio program run in partnership between Chevron Technology Ventures and the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR), managed through NLR's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IEC). The program matches experienced U.S.-based entrepreneurs with early-stage intellectual property (IP) curated from national laboratories and universities, with the goal of commercializing lower-carbon technologies. The program runs in three sequential phases: Discovery (approximately three months, during which entrepreneurs evaluate IP and develop a business commercialization plan), Scale-Up (during which a company is formed and seed funding is provided), and Field Trial (where the technology is implemented and tested at a commercial-scale industrial site). Entrepreneurs are selected twice a year into cohorts. Technology focus areas include carbon utilization, energy storage, hydrogen and renewable energy, circular economy solutions, wireless power, and robotics. Additional funding for the Field Trial phase may be requested under program rules, and entrepreneurs may also raise outside capital.
