CIV

CIV is a venture capital firm founded in 2023 by Patrick Maloney, Jeff Rosenthal, and Abhijoy Mitra, headquartered in Venice Beach, California. The firm backs and builds technology companies focused on critical industries including energy and resources, advanced manufacturing and industrial automation, digital and data infrastructure, mobility and transportation, and built environment and infrastructure. CIV operates as both investor and company builder: it invests in existing companies and, when the right company does not yet exist, co-founds and incubates one in-house. In April 2025, CIV closed its inaugural CIV Fund One oversubscribed at more than $210 million in capital commitments. Limited partners include StepStone Group, Gwynne Shotwell (President and COO, SpaceX), Brown Advisory, and Fred Wilson (Co-Founder, Union Square Ventures). Portfolio companies include The Nuclear Company (co-founded), Senra Systems, Base Power, Crux, and Verse. The firm provides portfolio companies with operational support, a global advisory network, and policy and legal expertise.
