Clean Energy Finance Corporation
InvestorActiveThe Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) is an Australian Government-owned specialist climate investor — commonly referred to as Australia's 'green bank' — established on 3 August 2012 under the Clean Energy Finance Corporation Act 2012. With access to more than AUD $33 billion in government capital, the CEFC invests across the full spectrum of clean energy and decarbonisation, including renewable energy generation, electricity grid transmission, energy storage, natural capital, sustainable housing, transport, infrastructure, industry, and climate tech innovation. Large-scale investments are generally AUD $20 million and above via project finance, direct debt or equity, listed and unlisted funds, and sustainability-linked bonds; smaller asset finance is available from AUD $10,000 to $5 million through co-financiers. The CEFC does not make grants and does not invest in carbon capture and storage or nuclear technology. Key sub-funds include the $19.65B Rewiring the Nation Fund, the $500M Powering Australia Technology Fund, the $300M Advancing Hydrogen Fund, and the $200M Clean Energy Innovation Fund (managed by Virescent Ventures), which backs pre-seed to growth-stage climate tech companies. The CEFC is governed by an independent board and is mandated to deliver a positive return for taxpayers across its portfolio.
