NATO Innovation Fund

The NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) is the world's first multi-sovereign venture capital fund, backed by 24 NATO allied nations and deploying over €1 billion in deep tech. Founded as part of the NATO 2030 initiative, it is a standalone fund legally domiciled in Luxembourg and headquartered in Amsterdam, with regional offices in Poland and the United Kingdom. NIF invests in cutting-edge science and engineering startups — from Seed through Series B — focused on strengthening defence, security, and resilience across the alliance. Its nine investment verticals include AI and data, autonomy, quantum computing, biotechnology, space, energy, novel materials and manufacturing, hypersonic systems, and next-generation communications. Initial ticket sizes are up to €15M, with substantial reserves for follow-on capital; NIF prefers to lead rounds and take board seats. The fund also runs a fund-of-funds program, backing early-stage and emerging-market VC managers aligned with its mission. Portfolio companies must be headquartered in one of the 24 participating allied nations. NIF operates with a 15-year fund life to provide patient capital suited to deep tech timelines.
