Proparco

Proparco is France's development finance institution (DFI) dedicated to the private sector, founded in 1977 and headquartered in Paris. A subsidiary of the Agence française de développement (AFD) Group, it finances and supports businesses and financial institutions across more than 115 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eurasia, and the Middle East. Its instruments include loans, equity investments, guarantees, and technical assistance (the Propulse range). Proparco targets private-sector actors — from startups and MSMEs to large corporates and investment funds — whose activities contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on three strategic pillars: sustainable and resilient economy, protecting the planet, and reducing inequalities. Key sectors include energy, agriculture and agri-food, healthcare, infrastructure, financial services, sustainable industries, and urban development. In 2025, Proparco committed €3.2 billion across nearly 200 projects. It is a member of the European Development Finance Institutions (EDFI) association and also operates Digital Africa, a subsidiary supporting tech entrepreneurship on the African continent.
