SFPIM (Société Fédérale de Participations et d'Investissement / Federale Participatie- en Investeringsmaatschappij), the Federal Holding and Investment Company, is Belgium's sovereign wealth fund, wholly owned by the Belgian federal state. Created in 2006 through the merger of the Federal Participation Company and the Federal Investment Company, it positions itself as a "smart capital" partner to Belgian SMEs and scale-ups as well as established, strategically important companies. Its sector focus spans historical priorities (life sciences, finance, aviation) and forward-looking areas (energy & utilities, transport & mobility, impact investing). Founders should note that SFPIM is Belgium-focused, takes equity stakes (typically requesting board representation), and weighs social and governance value alongside financial return rather than acting as a conventional VC. Scale is substantial: it manages roughly €14 billion on behalf of the state, holds 189 portfolio companies, and reported €211.2 million in 2025 profit. Check sizes are not publicly disclosed and are determined deal-by-deal; as an evergreen state vehicle, it has no fixed fund vintage. Contact: contact@sfpi-fpim.be
