Sutter Hill Ventures (SHV) is a venture capital investor founded in 1962 and headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with an additional office in London. One of Silicon Valley's oldest and most low-profile firms, it backs technically differentiated, technology-driven startups across enterprise software, enterprise infrastructure, AI, life sciences and healthcare, and fintech (plus semiconductors), predominantly in the United States. SHV invests from seed through Series C, with checks averaging roughly $3–5M at seed and $18–28M at Series A/B. Distinctively, it operates a single evergreen fund rather than raising discrete vintages, giving it open-ended flexibility on timing and follow-on, and it actively originates and incubates companies through in-house "builders in residence."
