Terraset

Terraset is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2022 and headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, that deploys philanthropic capital to high-impact, early-stage climate solutions — primarily carbon removal and superpollutant elimination. Rather than making equity investments, Terraset uses three main financial mechanisms: upfront pre-purchase commitments for greenhouse gas credits, a revolving fund that pre-purchases credits and reinvests proceeds from corporate credit sales into new projects, and program-related investments (PRIs) and recoverable grants to unlock funders who require some return. The organization pools tax-deductible donations from individuals, foundations, family offices, and donor-advised funds, then directs capital to vetted projects such as Charm, Heirloom, Climeworks, Capture6, Planetary, and Vaulted Deep. Terraset also covers superpollutants including methane from orphaned wells and legacy refrigerants. Climate project developers can submit projects for consideration via the website. Partners include the Grantham Foundation and The Schmidt Family Foundation. As of 2024, Terraset reported total revenue of approximately $3.6 million.
