DOD SBIR/STTR Program
GrantActiveThe Department of Defense SBIR/STTR program is one of the largest federal small business innovation programs, funding R&D for defense-related technologies across the Army, Navy, Air Force, and other DoD components. Phase I awards approximately $250K over 6 months for feasibility studies, while Phase II provides up to $1.8M over 24-36 months for prototype development. Eligible applicants must be U.S. small businesses with 500 or fewer employees, and STTR applicants must partner with a nonprofit research institution. Note: SBIR/STTR program authorization expired October 1, 2025; new activity is paused while ongoing awards remain valid.
