Expa

Expa is a company studio and venture fund founded in 2013 by Garrett Camp (co-founder of Uber and StumbleUpon), headquartered in San Francisco. It operates in two modes: a hands-on startup studio that originates ideas, handles branding and design, forms teams, and provides initial capital to build companies from scratch; and a separate early-stage VC fund ('Expa Ventures') that seeds external founders. The studio has launched companies including Current, Collective, Metabase, Mix, and Reserve, several of which have been acquired (CMD to Elastic, Reserve to Resy/Amex, Gitalytics to GitHub, Torch to OpenAI). Expa has raised approximately $350M in total capital; its most recent fund, announced in 2022, was $200M. Typical seed funding ranges from $500K to $3M. The firm's partners have founded or led companies including Uber, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Foursquare.
