Idemitsu Corporate Venture Capital (CVC)

Idemitsu Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) is the strategic investment arm of Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., one of Japan's largest energy and materials companies. The CVC team operates from Tokyo, Basel (Switzerland), and the US, and invests with a medium- to long-term perspective across two domains: CNX (low-carbon and decarbonization solutions, including renewable energy, biofuels, hydrogen/ammonia, synthetic fuels, and carbon capture/credits) and GROWTH (electrification/ICT covering data centers, satellites, batteries, robotics, and drones; and Bio-Life/AgriLife). The investment budget is 10 billion yen for the 2024–2026 period. Typical check sizes range from $1M to $5M USD in Series A and later rounds. Beyond capital, Idemitsu shares its technological expertise, R&D capabilities, supply chain, and customer base with portfolio companies. The CVC operates in partnership with Emerald Technology Ventures under a corporate venture capital-as-a-service (CVCaaS) model, covering deal sourcing, investment evaluation, and portfolio follow-up.
