JERA Ventures
InvestorActiveJERA Ventures is the corporate venture capital unit of JERA Co., Inc., Japan's largest power generation company (a joint venture of TEPCO and Chubu Electric Power). Established in July 2023, it deploys up to $300 million from JERA's balance sheet across direct startup investments and fund-of-fund commitments. Investment is organized around three themes: energy transformation (decarbonization, hydrogen and ammonia value chains, renewables), customer-centric digital energy technologies (AI, blockchain, digital platforms), and corporate well-being and femtech. JERA Ventures typically writes checks of $5–10 million at Series A and B, with a stated long-term horizon of 8–12 years suited to deep-tech commercialization timelines. Portfolio companies gain access to JERA's gas, ammonia, and hydrogen supply chains and pilot/proof-of-concept opportunities. The portfolio spans companies in Japan, Europe, and the United States, including direct investments in firms such as Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Kyoto Fusioneering, Power to Hydrogen, Advanced Ionics, and Granular Energy, as well as LP positions in funds including AP Ventures, Energy Impact Partners, and Emerald Technology Ventures.
