The Low Carbon Innovation Fund (LCIF) is a UK-based co-investment venture capital initiative focused on SMEs in the East of England that develop or deploy environmentally beneficial technologies with measurable greenhouse gas reductions. Led by UEA's Innovation Funding team and managed by Turquoise International, the fund has operated across three successive rounds since 2010. LCIF1 and LCIF2 raised over £30M in ERDF funds and leveraged an additional £100M in private finance, backing 82 companies across energy and infrastructure, transport and mobility, resource efficiency, agriculture and biodiversity, and sustainable health. LCIF3 is now open and targets primarily UK later-stage (post-revenue or early-profit) climate-tech companies. The fund co-invests alongside private sector investors including angels, other funds, and founders. Enquiries for LCIF3 are accepted via an online form on the UEA Innovation Funding website.
