NYSTAR Innovation Matching Grants (SBIR)

NYSTAR's Innovation Matching Grants program provides up to $200,000 in state matching funds to New York small businesses that have received federal SBIR or STTR awards, helping them cover commercialization costs not typically funded by federal grants. Eligible expenses include business planning, patent filing, marketing, and sales efforts that accelerate the path from prototype to market. Companies must meet New York State's small business criteria and commit to remaining headquartered and operating or manufacturing in New York for at least two years following successful commercialization. The program covers 18 strategic technology areas including AI, energy storage, lifesciences, and advanced manufacturing. Rounds open at 9:00am on the second Wednesday of October and April and stay open for one week, closing the following Tuesday at 5:00pm.
