The Scaleup Europe Fund is a new multi-billion euro late-stage and growth equity fund established under the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund umbrella, targeting Europe's most promising deep tech scaleups. It has a target size of approximately €5 billion, anchored by a €1 billion commitment from the European Commission, with the remainder from private founding investors including Novo Holdings, EIFO, CriteriaCaixa, Santander/Mouro Capital, APG/ABP, Wallenberg Investments, and others. EQT was selected as the independent, market-based fund manager following a competitive public call for expressions of interest, with its appointment confirmed by the EIC Fund Board in May 2026 and publicly announced at the EIC Summit on 3 June 2026. The fund invests directly in equity in European strategic technology companies at the growth and scaleup stages, with individual investment amounts in the range of €100 million and above (including follow-on investments). It is open to companies in EU Member States and Horizon Europe Pillar III-associated countries. First investments are expected in autumn 2026. The fund focuses on AI, quantum technologies, semiconductors, robotics, energy technologies, space, biotechnologies, medical technologies, advanced materials, and agritech.
