UCL Technology Fund
InvestorActiveThe UCL Technology Fund (UCLTF) is an early-stage venture capital fund dedicated to investing in intellectual property commercialisation opportunities arising from UCL's research base, with a focus on the physical and life sciences. Managed by AlbionVC in collaboration with UCL Business (UCLB), the fund supports the full commercialisation journey — from proof-of-concept (PoC) grants of up to £250,000 (typically over 12 months), to licensing project funding of up to £2 million for post-PoC pre-commercial development, to spinout investments of up to £7 million in total. Eligibility is restricted to projects with a clear link to UCL and its academics. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis year-round through a UCLB Business Manager; the investment process includes both scientific peer review and commercial assessment. The fund is currently on its second vehicle (Fund II), which announced a first close in August 2020 with a £100 million target and cornerstone commitments from British Patient Capital and UCL. Fund I made 45 investments, including 27 spinout companies, and produced two Nasdaq IPOs (Orchard Therapeutics and MeiraGTx).
