Barclays Climate Ventures is the corporate venture arm of Barclays bank, founded in 2020 and led by the bank's Principal Investments team. It holds a mandate to invest up to £500m of Barclays' own equity capital in climate tech startups globally by the end of 2027, targeting the 'missing middle' growth-stage financing gap that separates traditional venture capital from infrastructure funds. The fund participates in Series A and B rounds, deploying initial investments typically ranging from £5m to £10m with the potential for follow-on investment. It prioritises commercially scalable decarbonisation technologies in high-emitting sectors where Barclays has significant client exposure — primarily energy and power, real estate, and food and agriculture. As of end-2025, the fund had invested £274m across more than 20 companies. Beyond capital, portfolio companies receive access to Barclays' cross-industry client network, climate tech finance specialists, and the Climate Tech Escalator, a support programme designed to help companies scale from early stage through to IPO. The entity was formerly known as Sustainable Impact Capital.
