Flanders Future Tech Fund (FFTF) is a publicly-backed early-stage investment fund managed by PMV, the Flemish government's investment company, and majority-owned by the Flemish Government. Founded in 2019, it finances the valorisation of technology developed by Flemish universities, strategic research centres (SOCs), spearhead clusters and private parties, with particular focus on Care & Welfare, Digital Transformation, and Climate & Sustainability, covering both hardware (electronics, photonics, chemistry) and software. The fund backs pre-revenue companies built around promising technology contributed in kind, where substantial capital is still needed to reach a market-ready product; each investment requires a private co-investor to contribute at least half of the round. It typically writes equity or convertible-loan tickets between roughly €100K and €5M, with strategic investments able to reach an initial ticket of up to €25M and follow-on convertible loans of up to €12.5M for strategic files. FFTF only invests in the first financing phase, with follow-on rounds handled through PMV directly. The fund has a total size of €250 million and has backed companies including Vertical Compute, AstriVax, Swave Photonics, Amphistar, Robovision, EDGX and Flindr Therapeutics.
