Geologic Enhanced Mapping System (GEMS) Prize
GrantActiveThe DOE Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office runs this two-round prize competition with a $300,000 total purse and individual awards of $15,000 to $100,000. Competitors build algorithms that generate improved geologic fault datasets from geophysical data and train and test them on real-world data, with the resulting datasets intended to support geothermal and critical-mineral mapping and the identification of hidden geothermal systems. Both individuals and groups may compete and DOE publishes no further eligibility restrictions, so entrants should check the official rules on the hosting platform. The competition is hosted on DrivenData rather than run as a notice of funding opportunity, so there is no FOA number, and submissions are due 3 December 2026.
