The Column Group
InvestorActiveThe Column Group (TCG) is a San Francisco-based biotech venture capital firm founded in 2007 by Peter Svennilson. TCG operates an edge-to-edge investment model through an ecosystem of complementary funds — TCG Platform funds (early-stage company creation), TCG Opportunity funds (later-stage support), TCG Labs-Soleil (single-asset biologics discovery and development), and TCG Crossover (TCGX, private and public stage). The firm focuses exclusively on life sciences, partnering with scientific founders to build drug discovery and development companies from inception through exit. Across its two-decade history, TCG has started or invested in 55 companies, achieved 18 exits, and generated $4.0 billion in returns. Its most recent platform fund, TCG V, closed at $615 million; a paired Opportunity III fund also closed at $615 million. TCG takes a hands-on approach to company formation, including board participation, executive recruitment, and CEO mentorship. The firm also runs the Swanson Fellowship, a one-year program for early-career biotech leaders focused on new company creation.
