Ultra Long Duration Energy Storage: Project Development Studies

Delivered by Innovate UK under the UKRI R&D Missions Accelerator Programme, this competition funds project development studies that prepare ultra-long-duration battery energy storage demonstrators, covering technology assessment, engineering design, cost roadmaps, market analysis and development and manufacturing plans for electrochemical systems capable of 100 hour or longer discharge and a 25-year lifespan. Grants run between GBP 350K and GBP 700K per project from a GBP 3M pot, for studies lasting three to nine months. The lead applicant must be a UK registered business of any size; academic institutions cannot lead or work alone, and collaboration with UK or international partners is permitted but not required. Applicants must show their technology fits either the near-commercial or the early-stage stream; the single closed-window competition opened 3 August 2026 and closes 30 September 2026.
