Unconventional Ventures
InvestorActiveUnconventional Ventures is a Nordic impact-focused venture capital firm founded in 2018 and headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, by general partners Thea Messel and Nora Bavey. The firm invests at the pre-seed and seed stages exclusively in startups led by diverse founders — women, people of color, immigrants, and/or LGBTQ+ individuals — building scalable impact tech companies in the Nordics and broader Europe. Its target sectors are climate and environment, health and femtech, education, and financial inclusion/equitable tech. Fund I closed at approximately $32M in July 2022. Fund II targets €80M; a first close of €52M was announced in November 2025, with a second close completed in April 2026, backed by LPs including the European Investment Fund and Investinor. The firm has backed over 30 companies and provides hands-on support and access to an international follow-on network in addition to capital.
