Phase I grants up to $175,000 (8 months SBIR, 12 months STTR), and Phase II provides up to $600,000 over 24 months, available only to prior Phase I awardees. Applicants must qualify as U.S. small business concerns meeting SBA size, ownership, and control requirements. Phase I applicants can also receive up to $6,500 in Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) funds to support commercialization planning. The FY2026 cycle was skipped during the SBIR/STTR authorization lapse; SBIR/STTR was reauthorized through FY2031 in April 2026 and USDA has not yet posted an FY2027 solicitation.
