EPA SBIR Program

The EPA SBIR program funds small businesses developing and commercializing innovative environmental technologies across clean water, air quality, land revitalization, sustainable materials management, safer chemicals, and homeland security applications. Phase I provides up to $100,000 for 6-month proof-of-concept studies, and Phase II offers $400,000 for further development plus an optional $100,000 Commercialization Option for companies that secure third-party investment. The program releases one solicitation per year (typically in June) with approximately 45 days to prepare proposals. While the EPA SBIR budget is relatively small at about $5M annually, it focuses on solutions that can be directly implemented to solve priority environmental challenges.
