Dates: 2028-09-10 – 2028-09-14Location: Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria

The International Mountain Conference (IMC) is a quadrennial scientific gathering exclusively focused on mountain research and cross-disciplinary dialogue on global environmental challenges. The 2028 edition will convene in Innsbruck, Austria from September 10–14, hosting researchers, policymakers, practitioners, students, and educators from diverse disciplines to synthesize understanding of mountain systems and their response to global change. Organized by leading mountain research institutions, IMC provides an excellent opportunity for experts from different fields—glaciology, ecology, geography, hydrology, social science, and policy—to engage in flexible session formats enabling in-depth technical discussions and collaborative problem-solving on critical sustainability issues. Conference topics span glacier dynamics, biodiversity conservation, water resource management, Indigenous knowledge systems, sustainable development, mountain-community adaptation strategies, and resilience frameworks in mountainous regions facing rapid environmental change.
